Having it get revamped and modernized for the Decades tour certainly didn’t hurt it either.ĥ6.
It’s got a great chorus and the orchestral elements, which I believe were all done via keyboard originally, blend together surprisingly well with the guitars and drums for such an early iteration of this style of music. Is it just me, or does the spoken part at the very beginning sound a bit similar to the opening monologue of Human Nature Disc 2? That aside, this is my favorite song off AFF by a decent margin and it’s probably the only AFF song that’s refined enough that it could still make the cut on a more modern Nightwish album. Elvenpath Ranked 1st out of 10 on Angels Fall First I also love the throwback to Stargazers at 3:14.ĥ7. There’s also so much going on instrumentally between the keys, guitars, drums and probably more stuff that I can’t exactly pinpoint, but it makes for a pure adrenaline rush of a song with an unrelenting tempo and an epic main chorus. Told you all it would be awhile before we saw Oceanborn again :) This is one of the earliest Nightwish songs to really impress me with it’s composition. Sacrament of Wilderness Ranked 6th out of 12 on Oceanbornīest version: Live in Buenos Aires, 2018 (Decades). I actually had this one ranked in the mid 20’s on the first few drafts of this list, but even though it fell to around the middle of the pack by the end, I still find it such an interesting and creative song, and it never fails to captivate me whenever it comes on.ĥ8. There’s also that creepy violin segment in between the two choruses that always makes me a bit uneasy. Tarja really sounds like some beautiful yet dangerous creature luring the listener in, and having Marko belting out the chorus behind her makes for such an interesting mix between the two of them that’s unlike any other song they’ve performed together. This is a very aptly named song, and it’s one of the most interesting duets Nightwish has done. It’s such an interesting portrayal of the topic and it never fails to grab my attention.ĥ9. The ending duet starting at 2:23 is definitely the highlight and I honestly wish that more of the song was done in that dueling format. I didn’t get the appeal at first, but as I came to understand the lyrics and listened to it more, it gradually became one of my favorite songs on the album. This is certainly the Wishmaster song that has grown on me the most. The Kinslayer Ranked 3rd out of 11 on Wishmaster We've made it to the midway point, so the songs on this post are technically my picks for Nightwishs most average songs, but putting it that way really minimizes how great the music is already.Ħ0. Of course with any list like this the ordering will be heavily subjective, but I welcome and comments, discussion and feedback. I generally won’t be considering demos, bonus tracks or live-only material, but I made exceptions for a few songs that were simply too good to not be included.
